Box Score LOCATION: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, Ohio)
THE BASICS:
The Lions battled hard for the entire match, with both teams playing in a very physical manner. Their efforts eventually paid off and the Lions ended up winning 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half featured two heavy-hitting defenses, with both sides being held scoreless. However, the second half featured a lot of fast-paced, well-played offense by both sides that resulted in several runs deep into the defenses of both Defiance and Mount St. Joseph. Defiance struck first, netting a goal in the 52nd minute to take the lead. After that, senior captain Zach Kuebler found the back of the net for the Lions, giving his squad new life on the field. With time running out and players growing tired, Nathan Hornback was able to slice his way through the Defiance defense and strike a solid shot into the back of the net with only just over 2 minutes remaining in the match, ensuring Mount St. Joseph would notch their 10th victory of the season.
STANDOUTS:
Zach Kuebler earned this award on Saturday. The captain for the Lions scored the game-tying goal in the second half that swung the momentum and ended up helping push the Lions to victory.
