THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (11-7-1) played a closely contested match with Hanover before eventually falling to Hanover in the conference semi-finals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mount St. Joseph got off to a slow start, allowing a goal to Hanover less than ten minutes into the game. The rest of the half was a defensive showcase, with neither team allowing a goal. Coming out of halftime down 1-0, the Lions looked to make a comeback with their season and HCAC Championship hopes on the line. Hanover quickly went up 2-0 in the second half, after scoring a goal less than five minutes into the start of the second 45 minutes. The Lions made things interesting when Stefanie Autenrieb found the back of the net in the 63rd minute off of an assist by Megan Grubb. However, they were unable to score again and ended up falling 2-1, ending their season and championship hopes.
STANDOUTS:
Stefanie Autenrieb was the only Lion to find the back of the net, scoring a goal in the second half to get Mount St. Joseph back into the match late.
