Box Score LOCATION: Justin F. Coressel Stadium (Defiance, Ohio)
THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (6-4. 6-2 HCAC) traveled to Defiance to face off with the YellowJackets in the seasons final game. The Lions were able to escape with a 21-20 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lions jumped out to an early 14-0 lead over the Jackets. As Chaiten Tomlin found Kendall Sprowl for an 11 yard TD in the first quarter. And followed that up with a 33 yard strike to Devonte Martin both of which would be followed by Jerry Porter extra points.
Extra points would be a very important portion of the game.
Defiance answered back with two Cody Wilson touchdown runs, one of 12 yards and one of 56 yards.
The Lions went up 21-14 late in the third quarter, only to be followed by Defiance scoring on its next possession. The games key play came on the extra point, as Jordan Osborne stepped to the ball with an opportunity to tie the game. His attempt came up empty and the Lions held on for a 21-20 victory.
STANDOUTS:
Offensively it was again Tomlin shining through, as he went 21-37 passing with 226 yards and two touchdowns. All while missing his favorite target Garrett Weaver who sat with an injury.
On the defensive side of the ball Colby Webb had 6 tackles an interception and a tackle for a loss. Tyler Hannah added a pick as well returning it 39 yards.
UP NEXT:
The Lions will go into the offseason with a lot to look forward to. With many of the key contributors from this seasons squad underclassmen, they will look to have a great season in 2017.
