Lions fight out hard-earned victory against Wittenberg

Box Score

Location: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, Ohio)

THE BASICS:

Mount St. Joseph University (3-1-2) was able to overcome a first half defecit and earn a win against a talented Wittenberg squad.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lions gave up a goal early to the Tigers of Wittenberg.  After surrendering a goal in the fifth minute of the game, the Lions were able to hold their opponents scoreless for the remainder of the first half.

The Lions started slow again in the second half but were able to break onto the scoreboard by a nice run through the Tiger defense by Alex Gross, who tied the game at 1-1.  Less than a minute later, Caleb Smith came streaking down the middle of the field and pushed the ball past the Tiger goalie in dramatic fashion to give the Lions a lead they would never relinquish.

STANDOUTS:

Alex Gross and Caleb Smith were the sparkplugs to an offense that produced two clutch goals in under a minute to take the lead.

NEXT UP:

MSJ will travel to Spalding on Friday to take on the Golden Eagles with a kickoff coming at 8:00 PM.
