MSJ Drops Two in Final Day of OAC/HCAC Crossover

THE BASICS:

MSJ women's volleyball team finished the second day of the OAC/HCAC Crossover 0-2 against two tough OAC opponents. MSJ dropped the first match versus Muskingum University in a tough five-set match, 3-2. Baldwin Wallace, a team with 18 wins and only one loss on the season, handed the Lions a loss in straight sets. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

MSJ came out strong winning a tight first set 26-24 against Muskingum. MU would tie the match after two, winning the second set 27-25. MSJ took back the lead winning the third set winning 25-17 before dropping the fourth set 25-21. With the match tied 2-2, MSJ couldn't capitilize in the fifth set giving the Muskingum the win 3-2.

MSJ's Riley Brunner led both teams with 20 kills in the match, a high for kills this season. Cailey Plemmons added 12 kills while Jessica Wilgenbusch finished with 14. Three Lions finished with double-digit digs defensively, with Kama Charles leading the way with 15. 

The Lions fought hard against Baldwin Wallace in the second match of the day but fell to the Yellow Jackets in straight sets with scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-17.

UP NEXT:

The tournament was the final tune-up opportunity for MSJ before the Lions begin their HCAC portion of the 2016 season. MSJ will travel to Anderson University on Wednesday, Sept. 28th to begin HCAC play.
