THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (1-0) hosted UC Clermont (0-1) to open their season on Saturday. The Lions took a lead in the first half and didn't look back, scoring twice in the second half to walk away with the 3-1 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lions benefitted on a costly Cougar foul in the goalie box in the middle of the first half. The foul set up a penalty kick for captain Teddy Kerr, who was able to find the back of the net and give the Lions their first lead of the season.
Kerr added another goal in the second half to stretch the lead to 2-0 before Tyler Schumann added the Lions third goal of the game. UC Clermont also scored late to make the score 3-1.
STANDOUTS:
Teddy Kerr came off the bench early in the first half and sparked the Lions offense, scoring twice in the game. Zach Kuebler also had a stellar game, anchoring the Lions defense and keeping the ball mainly on the Cougar side of the field.
