Lions hot shooting leads them to road victory

BLUFFTON, Ohio- The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team traveled to Bluffton, Ohio to take on the Beavers of Bluffton University. The Lions would ride an outstanding shooting night to defeat the Beavers 76-59. 

The game would be a back and forth affair through much of the early going, as the lead changed hands eight times over the first 12:00 minutes of play. Entering the final stretch of the first half the Beavers took a 21-20 lead, but it would be there final lead of the game. The Lions would take a 22-21 lead on an Andrew Finley (Cincinnati, Oh/ Walnut Hills) layup with 7:47 to go. They would close the first half on a 18-12 run to take a 7 point lead into the break. 

Adam Goetz (Erlanger, KY/ St. Henry) and Jordan Henry (Lexington, KY/ Bryan Station) led the way offensively for the Lions in the first half. Goetz scored 9 of his game high 21 points in the opening twenty minutes and Henry added 9 points as well. 

The Beavers would open the second the second half on a 6-0 run to tie the score at 40. The Lions answered immediately with a Goetz three-pointer. Bluffton would keep the score close over the next few minutes, but the Lions would go on a 13-3 run to put the game away. An Erik Edwards (Cincinnati, OH/ Roger Bacon) dunk, and a Conner Myslowski (Dayton, OH/ West Carrolton) three-pointer bookended the run. 

All told four Lions would score double figures in the game, Goetz led the way with 21 points, he also chipped 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Edwards chipped in 14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks. Jake Cropper (Georgetown, OH/ Georgetown)  12 points off the bench, and Henry added 19.

The Mount will take to the court again Saturday, as they welcome the Spartans of Manchester into the Harrington Center. The game will be a part of Mount Madness, which benefits the Forever22 scholarship fund. The game is scheduled to tip at 5:00 PM, follow MSJsports.com for all of your coverage.
