Rocket League Week Two Recap

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The MSJ Esports team finished off week two this past Tuesday. Team One continued their dominance in their group by beating both Milwaukee School of Engineering and Pennsylvania College of Technology, both matches going to a 3-1 in a Best of Five. Team Two looked strong in their first match, but couldn't quite finish with a 1-3 loss against Shawnee State. The second match of the night didn't prove any more favorable with a 0-3 loss to Manchester University.

Team One:

  • MSJ Team One would start Evan Miller (Sophomore), Jackson Dalton (Sophomore), and Cole Mericle (Sophomore).
  • MSJ and Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) started game one of the best of five close. Tied 1-1 going into the final minute, MSOE was able to secure the game with a goal at the 00:03 mark off a great centering pass. MSJ loses 1-2 in game one.
  • MSJ took game 2 of the match with a dominating force with a 4-2 win. They never lost the lead, and held a 4-1 lead for four minutes of the match.
  • MSOE brought it back with a more competitive game three. The game would be tied 2-2 until MSJ broke it open with 1:10 remaining, making it 3-2. MSJ blew it open, scoring three goal within one minute, winning 6-2
  • Game four was a slow drive, both teams being tied 1-1 going into the third minute. MSJ would pull through ending the game 3-1 with one minute remaining.
  • MSJ takes the series 3-1.
  • Match two would be against Penn College of Technology (PCT). MSJ would lead for the majority of the game, 2-1. PCT would make a miraculous goal, making it 2-2 and sending it to OT. PCT would take it 2-3 in OT.
  • MSJ would fight with PCT for three minutes into regulation to get their first goal, and it would be quickly tied up going 1-1. We went to a second OT, but MSJ would clean it up quick with a goal 15 seconds in for the win, 2-1.
  • Game three would start the same, starting out as a quick 1-1 match. MSJ would pull away quickly though, ending the game with a statement 5-1 win.
  • Game four would sit 1-1 for almost the entirety of the game. The final minute would result in two goals, one from each team going 2-2 and we would go to another OT. MSJ wouldn't take long though to find the final goal. 34 seconds in, MSJ takes it 3-2.
  • MSJ takes the series 3-1.

Team Two:

  • MSJ Team Two would start Jason "Tyler" Stevens (Sophomore), Alex Shackelford (Freshman), and Will Barger (Sophomore).
  • Match One was against Shawnee State University.
  • Game 1 would start MSJ off on a rocky start. Both teams scored early, sitting on 1-1. Shawnee state would hit a clutch two quick goals which sat them at 1-3. MSJ would make a comeback goal, lowering the lead to 2-3. However, MSJ would fall, losing game one.
  • Game 2 would be a slow and difficult game for MSJ. Shawnee scored early, and MSJ would not recover, losing 0-1.
  • Game 3 would show that MSJ could stand with Shawnee. Scoring a quick early goal to go up 1-0. Shawnee would catch up, 1-1, but MSJ would bounce back quick. MSJ dominated game 3 with a 4-2 win.
  • Game 4 would not go the way for the Lions, resulting in a loss. MSJ would lose the series 1-3.
  • Next matchup would be against Manchester University.
  • Manchester is coming in as the 1st seed for the group and would prove why they're considered to be a great team.
  • MSJ would not be able to take a game off of Manchester, resulting in a 0-3 sweep.
