ANDERSON, Ind. - On Saturday, October 9th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Anderson University to take on the Ravens. Each team was held scoreless in the first half but, Anderson got the scoring started in the 51st minute. The Lions would answer back in the final two minutes scoring in the 88th minute to tie the game. After 90 minutes the score sheet read 1-1 with the Lions equalizing late.
Each squad was held in check in the first half. The Lions finished with 6 shots, 3 on target, compared to Anderson's 4 shots, 3 on target. At the end of 45 minutes, each team was scoreless.
After halftime the Ravens struck first. Anderson's Izzy Wilson found the net in the 51st minute giving them a 1-0 lead. After the goal the Lions defense would clamp down not allowing another ball to find the net. It wasn't until the 88th minute when the Lions would comeback and tie the game.
Emily Reichling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored off a pass from McKenzie Schneeman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Deer Park) to tie the game at 1 with just 2 minutes remaining in regulation. After 90 minutes the score remained tied and we were headed to overtime.
In the first period of overtime the Lions had some chances. The Lions defense was able to keep the Ravens offense in check not allowing a single shot in either of the overtime periods. In the first overtime period the Lions had 4 shots, 2 on target, but could not sneak one past the Raven keeper. In the second overtime period each team was held in check with no shots for either squad. After a total of 100 minutes played, the score showed 1-1.
Emily Reichling ended up being the savior for the Lions scoring with just 2 minutes until the game was over.
Megan Gilpin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) was solid in the net for the Lions finishing with saves while allowing just 1 goal.
