Schneeman Lifts the Lions past Transy with 2OT Goal!

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Wednesday, October 13th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Pioneers of Transylvania to Schueler Field for a HCAC matchup. The Pioneers had the momentum early in the contest but the Lions took over in the 2nd half. Each team was held scoreless until Mckenzie Schneeman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Deer Park) slammed home a goal in the 102nd minute to lift the Lions to victory scoring her 5th goal in a weeks span.

In the first half each team was quiet offensively. The Pioneers held possession in the Lions defensive third for the beginning of the half firing five shots at the Lions goalkeeper Madison Hart (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) three of them being saved. The Lions then took control in the 2nd part of the first half. The Lions managed to get 3 shots off two of them being saved by the Pioneers goalkeeper but none found the net. After 45 minutes of play, the Lions were tied with the Pioneers 0-0.

In the 2nd half the Lions carried their momentum from the last 15 minutes of the first half. The Lions controlled the ball in the Transy defensive zone firing six shots, two of them being saved and one hitting the crossbar. The Lions defense held strong in the 2nd half allowing only three shots, one being saved by Hart. After a couple of scoring chances for the Lions, they were never able to find the net and after 90 minutes of play, the score was still knotted up at 0.

To begin the first half of overtime each team could not get anything going offensively. The Lions were able to get off the only shot of the overtime period but it was off target leading us to the second period of overtime.

In the second period of overtime is when the Lions would finally strike. Just two minutes into the period reigning HCAC Offensive Player of the Week Mckenzie Schneeman would find the back of the net! Molly Sheridan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was gifted a free kick from 35 yards out and fired a ball into the top left corner of the net. The Pioneers keeper was able to make a fantastic save but, Schneeman was right there to clean it up and smash it into the net to give the Lions the golden goal in the 102nd minute of play.

Schneeman was the hero for the Lions tonight tallying the only goal of the contest. Madison Hart recorded her 3rd straight clean sheet and posted 5 saves on the night. The Lions as a team totaled 11 shots, 5 on target in the victory.
