Lions Dominate at Home to Earn Win Over Franklin

Cincinnati, Ohio—It was senior day for the Mount St. Joseph University Volleyball program, in which they honored their lone senior, Riley Gintert.  After the heartfelt ceremonies, the Lions were set to take on conference foe, Franklin College.  All being told the Lions were able to win in straight sets.  This win pushed the Lion's overall record to (14-9) and (4-1) in Heartland Conference play.  

Set One: MSJ:25 FC:12 (1-0)

The Lions jumped out to a commanding lead early 11-1 set one lead.  This led to the Lions cruising to an easy 25-12 set win.  This dominance was thanks to the strong attack, that saw the Lions register 16 kills the set while hitting an astonishing .500.  

Set Two: MSJ: 25 FC: 5 (2-0)

The second set of this contest saw continued dominance by the Lions, allowing them to take a commanding two-set lead over the Grizzlies.  This strong second set performance saw the team record 5 service aces by Kara Bradley, Grace Young, Erin Androne, and Sam Buschur.  

Set Three: MSJ:27  FC:25  (3-0) MSJ

Set three saw Franklin put together their strongest showing of the contest jumping out to an early 8-2 lead over the Mount.  After that point in the set, the Lions found their footing and go on a run of their own, cutting into the Grizzlies' lead to eventually regain control at 11-10.  At this point, the Grizzlies once again appeared to run away with the set.  However, the Lions would not go away, off of a rally led by Gintert the Lions would tie the set at 25-25, and ended on another Bradley ace allowing the Lions to win 27-25.  

Top Performers:

The Lions were led by Young, who registered a team-high 12 kills while hitting .526 and two service aces. Androne's performance saw her total 13 digs, 3 assists and 2 aces.  The combination of Abshire and Morgan Whitaker also had great games on the attack, Whitaker finished with 8 kills, while Abshire finished with 6.
