CINCINNATI, Ohio - Your Mount St. Joseph University Lions played host to the Spartans of Manchester Saturday, October 2nd. The Lions defense was fantastic in the victory allowing only 3 shots the entire game. The Lions offense had a slow start but flourished in the 2nd half accumulating for 14 shots in the half while scoring once in the 78th minute. After 90 minutes of play the Lions were victorious by a score of 1-0.
In the first half the Lions dominated defensively. The Lions didn't allow a single shot in the 1st half. The Lions controlled possession but could not get the ball into the back off the net and after 45 minutes of play, the score stayed at 0-0.
After halftime the Lions defensive unit continued to dominate. The Lions defensive unit only allowed 3 shots, 1 on target, in the entire game. The Lions offense was able to find their footing in the 2nd half getting off 14 shots, 7 on target. It wasn't until the 78th minute when the Lions would get on the board.
Haley Trittschuh (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) controlled the ball down the right hand side of the pitch. She would then whip the ball into
Julia Herzog (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley). who headed the ball into the top left hand corner of the net giving the Lions a 1-0 lead!
The Lions would attempt to add to their lead by shots from
Ella Pittman (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) and
Mariah Briggs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) in the final minutes but could not get home. After 90 minutes of play the Lions were victorious by a score of 1-0.
Goalkeeper
Madison Hart (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) only needed to save one shot the entire game and recorded her 2nd straight clean sheet. The Lions recorded 19 shots, 10 on target, in the game.
Ella Pittman lead the Lions with 4 shots in the contest. Following her
Catherine Hatfield (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia),
Poetrie Bedgood (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley),
Mariah Briggs, and
Hannah Keith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) all finished with 2 shots in the contest.
