Lions Wrap up the Regular Season with a Victory over Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - On Saturday, October 30th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Manchester University to take on the Spartans in the final regular season match of the year. The Lions dropped the first set but answered back well winning the next three to finish the season with a 18-9 record, 8-1 in the HCAC. Grace Young (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) and Emily Abshire (Cincinnati, Ohio/Miami Valley Christian Academy) led the way for the Lions. Young finished with 12 kills while hitting .259 and Abshire finished with 11 kills while hitting .308. 

SET ONE: 22-25 (MU) (1-0)
The Lions got off to a slow start as they never held a lead in the first set. Manchester was able to take control giving them an early 1-0 lead. 

SET TWO: 25-16 (MSJ) (1-1)
The Lions bounced back nicely in the 2nd set hitting .269. Early in the set Erin Androne (Cincinnati, Ohio/Reading) gave the Lions a cushion with two service aces. Grace Young carried the load registering 5 kills in the set. 

SET THREE: 25-15 (MSJ) (2-1) 
The Lions again took control of the match in set three. A pair of late service aces from Erin Androne gave the Lions a 18-8 lead. Grace Young also recorded two service aces to lift the Lions past Manchester in set three. 

SET FOUR: 25-20 (MSJ) (3-1)
In set four the Lions came out hot registering a huge 16-5 lead to kickoff the set with kills from Emily Abshire, Addie Conley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), Brooke Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio/Tipp City), Grace Young, and Morgan Whitaker (Milford, Ohio/Milford). Manchester would then go on a run of their own trimming the Lions lead to just 4. But, a trio of big kills from Abshire sealed the victory for the Lions. 

With the win the Lions wrap up regular season play with a 18-9 record going 8-1 in HCAC play. The Lions will enter the HCAC tournament with the #2 seed.
