Cincinnati, Ohio-After collecting the first win of the season the Lions look to build a winning streak this Saturday when they host Defiance College. The Yellow Jackets of Defiance College enter this ball game 1-2 on the season with losses to HCAC powers Hanover College and Rose-Hulman, their lone victory of the season comes against Manchester University in a 22-16 win. The Lions enter this game 1-1 off of a strong win last weekend over Franklin College. In last seasons match-up between the two schools the Lions came away with a convincing 59-6 win.
Following a huge offensive performance the Lions look to continue their offensive fireworks, this weekend. The Yellow Jackets defense has been weak thus far this season allowing opponents to score on average 41.3 points per game, while surrendering 386 yards. It will be the goal of the Lions to continue their strong rushing attack that has been averaging a staggering 259 yards rushing per game, while putting up points often, through two games the Lions have averaged 38.5 points per game. This offensive output has been led by quarterback Josh Taylor, who was named the HCAC offensive player of the week and named to the d3football.com team of the week, thanks to his 7 touchdown performance.
The Defiance offense has lacked the ability to put up points this season, averaging just 13.3 points per game. Among many reasons a main struggle for Defiance this season has been the seven sacks they have given up in just three games, giving the defensive-line an opportunity to put pressure on the Yellow Jackets quarterback. To this point in the season the Lions defense has made improvements each week. The improvements can be attributed to Linebacking core of Jonathan Finn and Julius Fisher who have done it all for the Lions this season, coming into this game the combo each has been accountable for at least one sack along with making several stops in the run game.
This game is set to take place on Saturday, March 27 at Schueler Field. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM. For more coverage of the Lions game against Defiance and coverage of all Mount Athletics continue to follow msjlions.com
