CINCINNATI, Ohio - Your Mount St. Joseph Lions welcome the Ravens of Anderson to Schueler Field Tuesday night for the Lions first HCAC matchup of the season. The Lions made a run to start the second half which allowed them some breathy room secure the victory with the final score showing 16-15 in the Lions favor.
To start the first half the Lions let one goal in the net but followed with three consecutive goals from three different Lions. First was Junior
Riley Gintert (Morrow, Ohio/Little Miami) who was assisted by the next goal scorer
Megan Dancer (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) who totalled 4 goals on the night. To finish the trio of goals was Freshman
Rachel Kyle (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) who was the Lions leading scorer on the night with 5 goals.
Following Kyle's goal the teams traded goals with Freshman
Rachel Winkler earning her only goal of the night making the score 4-2 with 23:41 remaining in the first half. The Ravens would respond back with 2 more goals equalizing the score at 4. The Lions would then trade goals with again
Rachel Kyle scoring making the score 5-5 with 15:16 remaining.
Within the last 4:30 each team scored 3 goals with
Sarah Murray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) scoring the first of her 3 goals on the night and
Josi Jennings (Milford, Ohio/Milford) scoring both of her goals. At the half the Lions were tied with the Ravens 8-8.
To begin the second half the Lions were on a tear scoring 6 straight goals to begin the half. The first goal happened just 42 seconds into the half by Junior
Megan Dancer, her second goal of the contest. To compete the other 5 goals were two from
Sarah Murray, another goal from Dancer, and two from
Rachel Kyle. With 22:39 remaining the score sheet read The Mount 14 - Anderson 8. Shortly after Dancer would find the net for the 4th time in the contest pushing the score to 15-9.
But, now it was Anderson's turn to go on a run. The Ravens would score 4 straight goals to make the score 13-15 with 9:22 remaining in the contest. But the Lions, weren't done yet.
Rachel Kyle would score the Lions final goal with 9:06 remaining to make the score 16-13. The Lions would then let up 2 goals with the final one occurring with 4:06 remaining. The Lions would then go on to play incredible defense and rely on Freshman goalkeeper
Emily Stiles (Milford, Ohio/Milford) to make some crucial saves to protect the Lions lead. At the final whistle the Lions came out victorious with a final score of 16-15.
Rachel Kyle led the Lions with 5 goals on the night.
Megan Dancer led the team in points scoring 4 goals and assisting 2. Freshman keeper Emily Stilles had a fantastic game even though Anderson scored 15 goals, Stiles made 11 saves on Anderson's 35 shots.
