HIRAM, Ohio - On Saturday March 27th your Mount St. Joseph Lions traveled to Hiram, Ohio to take on the Terriers of Hiram College. The Lions showcased incredible defense in the matchup but offensively fell short in a 7-4 defeat.
The Lions started the 1st quarter off quickly with two goals, one from freshman
Austin Combs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) and the other from sophomore
Cole Mericle (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior). But, to end the first quarter the Terriers equalized the score 2-2.
Just 30 seconds into the 2nd quarter the Lions took the lead with another goal from Mericle. Just a minute after the Lions took the lead the Terriers answered back making the score 3-3. The Terriers then added 2 more in the quarter making the score 5-3 going into the half.
To start the second half the Lions began to shoot the ball more. The Lions totaled 6 consecutive shots to start the half, but could not find the back of the net. After a goal from Hiram the Lions were able to score their final goal of the contest with 6:45 remaining in the third quarter, this time it was
Bryce Smith (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East). The Terriers added one more goal to their column before the end of the quarter making the score 7-4.
The forth quarter consisted of spectacular defense from both sides. The Lions totaled 14 shots in the quarter but were never able to score. The Lions defense stood strong in the quarter by not allowing a single shot from the Terriers. As the final whistle blew, the Terriers defeated the Lions 7-4. The Lions nearly doubled the Terriers shot total with the Lions shooting the ball 38 times compared to the Terriers 20.
