Cincinnati, Ohio—It is the Final Home game that the Mount St. Joseph University Football Program will host this season, and it has the makings of an exciting match-up. The Bluffton University Beavers will travel to the Mount on Saturday, April 3 to take on the Lions. Bluffton looks much improved this season currently posting a 3-2 record. The two Bluffton loses have been at the hands of HCAC Powers, Franklin and Hanover Colleges. In their game against Hanover the Beavers were able to take the game down to the wire before Hanover scored a game winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter. On the other hand the Lions are riding a 2 game win streak and enter this ball game with a 2-1 record on the season.
HISTORY:
The last time the two teams met the Lions were able to walk away with a 38-14 win. Additionally the Mount has taken the last two matchups against the Beavers and 7 of the last 10. This game will also pit the Lions who are tied for third in the Heartland Conference against the fourth ranked Bluffton Beavers.
OFFENSE
The Lions offense will look to get the ground attack rolling again to accompany their best passing performance of the season coming last week against Defiance. In order for the rushing attack to continue its impressive efficiency the Lions will rely on Quarterback Josh Taylor who leads the conference with 146.6 rushing yards per game while coming second in rushing touchdowns thus far with 7. In the Lions pervious game the Quarterback combo of Josh Taylor and Kyle Proffitt passed for a season high 395 yards. Currently on the season the Beavers defense has been allowing 27.8 points and allowing for opponents to average 418 yards gained per game. This matchup will be a great test for the Lions offense.
DEFENSE
Bluffton has displayed a strong offense this season. Currently they are scoring 35.4 points per game, thanks to an outstanding rushing attack that averages 229 yards. The Beavers rushing attack is spotlighted by senior running back Darian Greely who is currently second in the HCAC in rushing and leads the conference in rushing touchdowns with 8. The rushing attack for the Beavers has been the supporting aspect of their 412.4 yards of total offense per game. This makes Bluffton one of the more impressive offenses that the Lions have seen so far this season. However the Lions defense will enter this game coming off a performance in which they forced 2 turnovers along with 4 sacks and are building momentum. This Defense has been highlighted by linebacking core Jonathan Finn and Julius Fisher who rank first and fourth respectively in the conference in tackling.
