Cincinnati, Ohio—The second double-header in as many games for the Lions saw them split games with Manchester University. In the first game the team put together a huge hitting performance in route to scoring 14 runs. However in the second game the Lions were unable to repeat their efforts, leading to the split double-header.
GAME ONE: MSJ 14 MU 10 F/9
Game one saw the Lions get red hot, scoring runs in each of the first four innings. In the bottom of the first Ryan Murray was able to drive the first run of the game in, grounding out to second, allowing Jake Lawson to score on a fielders choice. After allowing Manchester to score four runs in the top of the second the Lions quickly responded with three runs of their own. Pedro Munoz manufactured two of these runs with a single to left field, later in the inning Lawson drove in Munoz on a sacrifice fly. The deciding factor of this game came from the Lions huge third inning in which they scored six runs. Ryan Murray started the third off with a double, followed by two Lion getting walked, Josh Hagans then hit a two RBI single. Two at bats after this Munoz continued his great game with a two RBI single of his own. To wrap up the scoring for this inning Munoz advanced home on a throwing error committed by the Manchester short-stop. The Lions continued to add onto their lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and bottom of the eighth.
The Lions were on fire from the box in this game, as they were able to collect 14 hits, while scoring 14 runs. Hagans was fantastic going 4-5 at the plate, including a double, while driving in 4 runs. Munoz was also great this game going 3-5 and driving in 4 runs as well. Freshman pitcher Mason Jewell entered the game in relief of starting pitcher, and eventually picked up the win, while going 3.2 innings. Then with two outs in the top of the eighth inning, Aiden Post entered the game, gave up only one hit, striking out three batters on his way to earning the save.
GAME TWO: MSJ 1 MU 11 F/9
The second game of this double-header did not go the Lions way. Brandon Shelton, started this game on the mound. Shelton had a strong start going seven innings while only allowing two earned runs, and the defense behind him surrendering an unearned run caused by an error. However Shelton did not get the run support that the Lions offered in the previous game, being held scoreless until the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh the Lions finally scored when Munoz drove in Hagans on a single to right field. This was the only time that the Lions were able to score this game, which lead to them dropping their second game of the double-header.
