Lions draw with Anderson to wrap up Regular Season play

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Friday April 2nd you Mount St. Joseph Lions hosted the Ravens of Anderson in the final game of the regular season. The winner of the game was set to host their playoff game. The Lions struck early with a goal but conceded one in the second half tying the game at 1-1. Neither the Lions or Ravens could find the net after that goal, ending the game with a tie. Since The Mount only had 3 losses opposed to the Ravens 4, the Lions were awarded with hosting the playoff game.

To begin the first half of play, the Lions came out shooting. They started the game with 3 unanswered shots, 2 on target, but could not find the net. But it wasn't long before the Lions would get on the board. In the 23rd minute on a cross from Senior Lauren Haynes (Hamilton, Ohio/Ross) after the goalkeeper disrupted the pass, Senior Jodie Weimer (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) found herself with an open net for her 6th goal on the season giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. To end the half each team had shots on target but there were no goals to show for it. The Lions went into the second half leading 1-0.

To begin the second half of play each team displayed productive offensive possessions but could not score. In the 65th minute of play the Ravens were able to equalize the contest with a goal to the bottom right hand corner of the net. The score then read 1-1. Following the goal each team traded a pair of shots but both were unsuccessful. After 90 minutes of play, the contest was now going into overtime.

In the first overtime period the Lions were able to get 2 shots off but neither found the net and the Ravens nearly scored in the 93rd minute but the shot ended wide right.

In the second period of overtime neither team could get any offensive rhythm going as each teams' defenses held strong ending the contest in a tie.

Weimer led the Lions with 7 shots, 4 on target, and a goal. Lauren Haynes also contributed 3 shots, 1 on target, and an assist in the contest. Goalkeeper Megan Gilpin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) had a solid day in the net accumulating 5 saves on 6 shots on target.
