Softball Splits with #18 Transy at Home

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph University softball team hosted #18 Transylvania University on Wednesday for a doubleheader. The matchup of the likely top two teams in the HCAC ended with each team shutting out the other enroute to a victory.

GAME ONE- MSJ-3, TU-0

Senior ace Sarah Miller got the start insided the circle for coach Goderwis and the Lions in game one, and she was dominant. Miller went the distance for the 5-hit shutout striking out a pair. She kept a deep Transy lineup off balance the entire game, as the Pioneers never really threatened and only managed to get two runners into scoring position all night.

Transy answered Miller with their ace, reigning HCAC Pitcher of the Year Kameron Bowling. The Lions offense was not explosive but did enough to get the win. The tone was set from the first at-bat of the game as senior shortstop Alehia Tucker led off the game with a deep homerun to left field.

The solo homer would be all the runs Miller would need but the Lions would play add on in the third, as Tucker led off the inning with a triple and would come home to score on a linedrive sacrifice fly to center field by Elizabeth Ivers.

They added their final run of the game in the sixth as Miller helped her cause leading off with a single. She was lifted for a pinch runner, Kaitlin Leslie who was bunted along by Ali Lang and scored on a basehit by Rachel Gabbard
.
GAME TWO | Transy 5 - MSJ 0

In game two the Lions turned to junior Kamryn McCool to try to go for the sweep, and McCool did her best to keep the Pioneers quiet. She threw a complete game allowing 5 runs and 10 hits, though she did strike out five in the loss.

The Mount struggled to put together sustained offense against the Pioneers in game two. The did manage to put together seven hits but the big hit alluded them all game long. Gracie Woodyard led the way as the only Lion with multiple hits in the game with two. Six other Lions had basehits in the contest.

Kamryn McCool started game two for the Lions' softball team. McCool did her best to keep a ranked lineup quiet. She was able to keep them to 5 runs, while striking out 5 in 7.0 innings of work.
