COLUMBUS, Ohio - On Saturday your Mount St. Joseph Lions traveled to Capital University to take on the Crusaders. The Lions scored late in the 76th minute to secure the victory as they inch closer to .500. The Lions defense was again dominant limiting the Crusaders to only 5 shots on target.
To begin the match the Lions and Crusaders each traded shots but there was nothing to show for it. Each squad's defenses held strong as the Lions only managed to get 3 shots off, 1 on target, while the Crusaders only managed 2 shots, 1 on target in the first half of play.
After halftime the Crusaders began flooding the net with shots. In the first 10 minutes of play Capital had 3 shots that all missed the target thanks to the stout defense of the Lions. It wasn't until the 76th minute of play when the Lions would attack. On a free kick about 30 yards from the goal Freshman
Ella Pittman (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) would send a ball whipping through the box, off the left post and into the net to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage.
After the score the Lions continued to hold the Crusaders back saving a pair of shots to finish out the contest. Pittman was the hero for the Lions along with Senior Goalkeeper
Megan Gilpin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) who made 4 saves on the night. Junior
Julia Herzog (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) was also efficient for the Lions offensively with 2 shots both on target.
