CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Tuesday your Mount St. Joseph Lions welcomed the Tigers of Wittenberg to Schueler Field. At Halftime the Lions trailed 2-0 but with 10 minutes remaining the Lions cut the deficit to 1 and threatened to send the match into overtime. But, the Lions were unsuccessful finding the back of the net ending with a 2-1 score in favor of Wittenberg.
The Tigers got on the board first in the 18th minute. Wittenberg's Alix Steele dribbled the ball down the far sideline whipping a cross into the box finding Amy Bidwill for a 1-on-1 with the keeper and fitting the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board a second time scoring in 21st minute. Wittenberg's Bidwell sent a cross slashing into the box and finding the head of Hannah Heald who powered the ball into the top left corner of the net giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. The Lions defense would then step up not allowing a single shot for the remainder of the half. The Lions mustered a pair of shots but had nothing to show for it heading into halftime.
After halftime the Lions would come out firing. The Lions were able to hurl 3 shots at the net in the first 10 minutes of play. The Lions defense continued to hold stout to the Tiger attack. The Lions offense came alive with just 15 minutes remaining in the contest.
Catherine Hatfield (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) received a ball roughly 15 yards out just outside the right hand side of the box and fired a shot at the net that nearly found the corner but rose a bit to high flying over the net.
The Lions did not stop there however,
Molly Sheridan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) received the ball roughly 30 yards out and sent a pass to her left to McKenzie Schneeman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Deer Park) who hammered a shot from 25 yards out sailing over the keeper's outstretched frame and into the top right hand corner of the net slimming the Tiger lead to 2-1 in the 81st minute. The Lions would stay on the attack and with just 5 minutes remaining
Emily Reichling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would send a cross into the flooded box to find the foot of Sheridan. Sheridan would hammer the ball to the top half of the net but the Tigers keeper made a spectacular save, essentially saving the game for the Tigers.
After 90 minutes of play the Lions could not complete the comeback but they certainly did not go down without a fight. The Lions finished with 10 shots, 5 on target, while each Lion goalkeeper made 2 saves.
