Fox Earns a Hat Trick as the Lions defeat Ohio Christian 4-0.

Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio - This Saturday your Mount St. Joseph Lions welcomed the Trailblazers of Ohio Christian to Schueler Field for an afternoon matchup. The Lions earned their first victory of the season defeating OCU by a score of 4-0. Freshman Taidan Fox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored his first collegiate goal and followed with 2 more, earning himself a hat trick.

The Lions got started early in the first half scoring in just the 14th minute. The Lions would get a throw-in on the right side of the pitch. Following the throw, Joshua Bailey (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) would volley the ball over his head and over to Taidan Fox who would trap the ball down with his chest and power it into the top left corner of the net giving the Lions a 1-0 advantage. Following the goal each team would trade shots that were both unsuccessful.

In the 25th minute of play the Lions would strike again. This time the Lions were given a corner kick. Luis Martinez Velez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cupeyville) whipped the ball into the box and found the head of Senior Justin Ives (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) who smashed the ball into the top right side of the net giving the Lions a 2-0 advantage. The Lions wasted no time scoring their third goal of the match just 3 minutes later in the 28th minute. Freshman Willis Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) dribbled the ball down the right sideline and crossed the ball into the box skipping past the defense to the foot of Taidan Fox who hammered the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net, scoring his second goal of the match.

In the remaining minutes of the first half the Lions defense was on full display. The Lions held the Trailblazers to just 1 shot in the first half and entered halftime with a 3-0 lead.

The Mount began the 2nd half firing at the net much like they did in the first half of play. Following a Trailblazer save, the Lions would be awarded a penalty kick for a foul inside of the box. Freshman Taidan Fox was given the opportunity to complete his hat trick and did just that. Fox smashed the ball into the bottom left hand corner to give the Lions a 4-0 lead in the 52nd minute of play.

In the remainder of the game the Lions were not able to strike, but still leaving Schueler FIeld with their first win of the season. The Lions were spectacular on both sides of the pitch. The Lions finished with 20 shots, 10 on target, while only allowing 6 shots,1 on target, from Ohio Christian. The Lions performance was highlighted by Freshman Taidan Fox who dominated on Saturday earning a hat trick. Justin Ives also scored for the Lions.
