Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Nate Hill

Lions score late but fall to Albion 2-1.

ALBION, Mich. - On Sunday, September 26th your Mount St. Joseph Lions traveled to Albion College to take on the Britons. The Britons got on the board early in the first half and cushioned their lead in the 2nd. The Lions would get 1 goal back late but could not complete the comeback falling, 2-1.

In the first half the Lions got off to a slow start offensively only recording 1 shot in the first half compared to Albion's 5. The Britons scored early in just the 12th minute of play to grab a 1-0 lead. For the rest of the 1st half the Lions defense held strong only allowing 3 shots, 1 on target.

To begin the 2nd half of play the Britons continued to control the ball on their offensive end. Lions goalkeeper Megan Gilpin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) made 3 saves in the first 10 minutes of the half to minimize the Briton lead. But, the Britons would finally break through in the 62nd minute of play with their second goal of the contest adding to their lead.

The Britons would then take a defensive approach for the rest of the game. The Lions then began to push their offensive side of the pitch and in the 83rd minute of play Catherine Hatfield (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) would find the back of the net for her 2nd goal of the season to trim the Albion lead to 1. The Lions would then muster off 3 more shots, but all could not find the net. After 90 minutes of play the Lions fell short, 2-1.

Ella Pittman (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) led the Lions in shots with 4, all on target, and Hatfield followed with 3 shots, 2 on target, and a goal. Goalkeeper Megan Gilpin was solid for the Lions recording 8 saves while giving up 2 goals.
