CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Wednesday your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Fightin' Engineers of Rose-Hulman to Schueler Field. The Lions struck early in the 7th minute of play as
Poetrie Bedgood (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) scored her first goal of the season and the only of tonight's match. Goalkeeper
Madison Hart (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) was phenomenal for the Lions earning her first clean sheet of the season.
The Lions didn't waste anytime getting on the board in their first conference matchup of the year.
Poetrie Bedgood scored in just the 7th minute off a pass from
Madeline Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) to give the Lions the early lead. The Fightin' Engineers would respond with a pair of shots both saved by goalkeeper
Madison Hart who was spectacular in the net for the Lions.
Going into halftime the scoresheet read 1-0 in the favor of the Lions. After halftime the Lions took a more conservative approach to the game limiting Rose-Hulman to just four shots in the second half. The Lions themselves were limited to just 4 shots in the half as well but their defense made up for it not allowing a goal. After 90 minutes of play the Lions found themselves 1-0 in HCAC play.
Head Coach
Darren Gallagher had this to say following the game, "Foremost, I want to say how much respect I have for the Rose-Hulman squad and their coaching staff. They play with a lot of heart, organization and I cannot imagine how difficult the last two weeks have been, From our end, we continue to build momentum and believe in ourselves as we have played top-ranked opponents all season! Specifically, our back line and goalkeeper who set the mentality for the entire team from start to finish."
Madison Hart finished with her best game to date in the net earning 8 saves. Bedgood scored the only goal for the Lions but freshman
Haley Trittschuh (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) led the team in shots with 3 followed by Bedgood and fellow freshman
Hannah Keith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with 2. The Lions as a squad finished with 9 shots, 4 on target and 1 goal. The Lions move to 4-7 overall and look to continue their success this weekend.
