Head Coach Darren Gallagher Secures his first collegiate victory with a 2-0 win over Wilmington

Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio - Your Mount St. Joseph Lions welcomed the Quakers of Wilmington College to Schueler Field Saturday night for the Lions home opener. The Lions controlled the game from the first whistle and never looked back defeating the Quakers by a score of 2-0.

The Lions flooded the net early but Catherine Hatfield (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) was the first to find the net in the 23rd minute of play. Hatfield received the ball off a botched clear and volleyed in into the top right corner of the goal giving the Lions a commanding 1-0 lead.

The Lions continued to hold the ball on the offensive ball of the pitch. The Lions were able to rack up 7 shots, 3 on target, after the Hatfield goal while the Quakers could only muster 2 shots both off target. The Lions would enter halftime with all the momentum along with a 1-0 advantage.

To start the 2nd half of play the Lions wasted no time getting the ball to their forwards as McKenzie Schneenman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Deer Park) and Hannah Keith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) both fired shots within the first 5 minutes in the half but both were squandered by the Quakers keeper.

After each squad would trade a pair of shots the Lions were able to extend their lead in the 70th minute of play. Gabriela Olguin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Fairfield) would feed a ball to Ella Pittman (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) who made a quick move towards the net and then crossed the ball to Catherin Hatfield who blasted the ball into the top left corner for her second goal of the night giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.

Following Hatfield's goal the Lions would take a defensive approach allowing only 2 shots for the rest of the contest as the Lions keeper Madison Hart (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) would record her first clean sheet of the season as the Lions rose victorious 2-0. This victory marked Head Coach Darren Gallagher's first collegiate win with many more to come! Congratulations Coach Darren Gallagher
