Bedgood Nets a Pair as the Lions Remain Unbeaten in HCAC Play

LEXINGTON, Ky. - On Wednesday, October 12th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Transylvania University to take on the Pioneers in an exciting HCAC matchup. The Lions entered play on a 6-game unbeaten streak including a 3-game win streak in HCAC play. The Lions got started early scoring in the 7th minute of play but the Pioneers answered right back with a goal in the 26th minute. After a scoreless rest of the half the Lions would finally break the tie with Poetrie Bedgood netting her 2nd goal of the night in the 83rd minute giving the Lions the lead. The Lions would hold on a extend their unbeaten streak to 7 games.

In the first half the Lions offense got off to a tremendous start. Just 7 minutes into the contest the Lions would find the back of the net. The Pioneers defense found themselves pressured along their back line. The Pioneer defender was challenged by Sophomore McKenzie Schneeman who forced a bad pass which went straight to the foot of Poetrie Bedgood. The Junior forward settled and slipped a shot to the bottom left hand corner of the net, past the keeper giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.

But, the Pioneers answered quickly. Following a pair of corner kicks Transylvania was able to tie the game at 1 in the 26th minute of play. But, the Lions defense held strong for the remainder of the half and after 45 minutes of play each squad was held to 1 goal a piece.

In the second half each defensive unit seemed to get stronger. It wasn't until the 83rd minute that the Lions would strike again. After a cross from Zoe Sanford ricocheted off a Transylvania defender, the Lions were awarded a corner kick. Sophomore McKenzie Schneeman stepped to take the corner from the far side. Battling the rainy weather, Schneeman got her footing a sent a cross into the box. Again, Junior Forward Poetrie Bedgood makes the play for the Lions leaping over the Pioneer defender and sending a powerful header towards the bottom right hand corner of the net giving the Lions a late 2-1 lead.

With just 7 minutes remaining the Lions defense held strong allowing no opportunities for the Pioneers giving the Lions their 4th straight victory defeating Transylvania 2-1. With that victory the Mount moves to 4-0-1 in HCAC play.
