CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Saturday, October 15th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Spartans of Manchester to Schueler Field for a HCAC matchup. The Lions defense shined Saturday allowing just 3 shots on target allowing Senior goalkeeper
Gustavo Gutierrez to record his first clean sheet of the season. But, the Manchester defense was up to the task surviving The Mount's attack and drawing 0-0.
In the first half the Lions and Spartans traded opportunities on net.
Michael Smith and
Luis Martinez Velez both sent a pair a shot at the net but could not convert heading into halftime tied 0-0.
After the break each squad tightened up their defense and prepared for another 45 minute battle. Manchester got play started with a a trio of shots, 1 which hit the top woodwork and bounced out. Gutierrez was dominant in net however, directing his defense and clearing out the potential offensive threat.
The Lions responded in the last 10 minutes of play.
Luis Martinez Velez,
Joseph Stark and
Gilberto Quintero all had opportunities on net, but could not finish. After 90 minutes of play the Lions tied HCAC foe Manchester 0-0. Goalkeeper
Gustavo Gutierrez was dominant in the tie finishing with 3 saves.
