RICHMOND, Ind. - On Saturday, October 1st your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Earlham College to take on the Quakers in a HCAC matchup. Each squad entered the contest after dropping their first conference match. The Lions were determined to begin their climb of the rankings with a victory over Earlham.
Joseph Stark got the Lions on the board early and goalkeeper
Matthew Hibbard recorded his first clean sheet of the season as the Lions cruised past Earlham 1-0.
In the first half the Lions wasted no time pushing the attack.
Joseph Stark scored his first goal of the season off a pass from
Michael Abel to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage in just the 4th minute. Following the goal the each team would struggle to find a rhythm offensively. Lions goalkeeper
Matthew Hibbard was impressive in the first half making 4 saves and keeping the Quakers off the board.
In the second half of play the Lions would again rely on their defense. Each team would scramble offensively but nothing to show for it. Hibbard was impressive again making 4 more saves to finish the clean sheet for the Lions.
Gunnar Gramann and
Christopher Yu blanketed the Quakers attack with each defender playing a full 90 minutes in the victory.
