The Mount Scores a Pair but Falls to Anderson

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Saturday, October 22nd your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Ravens of Anderson to Scheuler Field. The Lions got on the board first scoring in the 27th minute but Anderson quickly answered 10 minutes later as each team entered the half with 1 goal. In the second half the Lions scored early just 5 minutes into the half to gain a 2-1 lead. However, Anderson would equalize in the 61st minute and then take the lead just 7 minutes later. The Lions were unable to push across their 3rd goal, falling to the Ravens 3-2.

In the first half, Senior Nicholas Phelps got the scoring started for the Lions. The play would start as a throw-in from the far side by Jacob Trusty. Off the throw-in Junior Michael Abel would leap over an Anderson defender sending a header shot toward the net. The Anderson keeper would make a tremendous save but the rebound would land directly to the foot of Phelps. Phelps volleyed the rebound off the cross bar scoring the games first goal in the 27th minute.

But, Anderson would answer right back scoring just 10 minutes later tying the scoring at 1. No team could generate offense to close out the half as the Lions were tied with Anderson 1-1 after 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Lions got off to a hot start. Just 5 minutes into the half the Lions were able to find the net. Luis Martinez Velez possessed the ball on the far sideline of Anderson's defense. He sent a ball hurling towards the middle of the box and Junior Michael Abel arose from the sea of defenders heading the ball towards the bottom right hand corner of the net giving the Lions a 2-1 lead.

But, the Ravens would equalize in the 61st minute and then take the lead in the 68th minute leaving the Lions with 22 minutes to push across their 3rd goal. Luis Martinez Velez had a shot for The Mount but could not convert as the Lions fell to the Ravens 3-2.
