CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Mount St. Jospeh men's basketball team hit the road to open their 2022-23 campaign heading to take on 2022 Final Four participant Wabash. The Little Giant jumped out taking a 17-point lead in the first half, the Lions battled back and had a pair of opportunities to tie the game in the final seconds fall short. The Lions eventually fell 81-78, but coach Carrigan's young team showed promise in the comeback attempt.
The Lions had four players score double figures in the game, led by newcomer Luke Collinsworth who had 28 points and 6 rebounds in his first action in the blue and gold. Joining him in double figures were a pair of fellow new Lions, Kelvin Turner (12) and Trey Dunn (10) as well as returner Alex Totton (10).
The Lions outrebounded the Little Giants 30-28 in the game, led by Collinsworth with 6 and Totton with 4. The team was also an outstanding 9-of-10 from the freethrow line.
They outscored Wabash 43-29 in the second half, as they turned up the defensive pressure. Wabash shot 52.5% from the field in the first half, but the Lions held them to just 36% in the second, helping them claw back into the game.

The Lions will return home and take part in the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic, the Friday thru Sunday event will feature 8 games with both men and women in action. Friday night there are a pair of women's games, Saturday a quartet of games (two women's followed by two men's), and Sunday a pair of men's contest. The men's field includes The Mount, Albion, Chicago and Muskingum, the Lions will play Muskingum on Saturday and Chicago on Sunday.
