ANDERSON, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team once again got off to a rough start, but again battled back against a tough HCAC opponent. They once again though were unable to get over the hump falling 67-65 on the road at Anderson.
The contest was back and forth through the first six minutes of action, the Lions tied the score at 10 with an
Evan Wiehe three-pointer with 14:11 to play. The Ravens would go on a 13-2 run over the next 2:51 to take control of the contest. The Lions were able to keep pace the rest of the half, not allowing Anderson to extend their lead. Eventually they trailed 36-27 entering the halftime intermission.Â
The second half looked to be much of the same early as Anderson pushed their lead out to a game-high 17 by the 16:26 mark. That is when
Kelvin Turner almost single-handedly got the the Lions back into the game. Over a three minute stretch Turner went on a 12-2 run by himself, going 4 for 4 from three point range over the span, cutting the lead all the way down to 5. The defecit would hold between 3-5 for the next few minutes, they eventually tied the score at 58 on a three-pointer from
Jack Kolar.Â
Anderson then went on another quick run, this time a seven point jolt to push themselves back ahead. The Lions would not get closer than two points again.Â
Turner led all scorers with a 23 point effort, making seven three-pointers.
Dayne Gardner added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench, while
Luke Collinsworth and
Nate Kratzer each chipped in 8 points for the Lions.
Up next the Lions will face off with the Fightin' Engineers of Rose-Hulman (4-3, 1-0 HCAC), the game is scheduled to tip-off at 4:00 PM in the Harrington Center.
