Jansen & Daulton Complete Double-Double as Lions Fall Short in Overtime

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Tuesday February 15th, your Mount St. Joseph Women's basketball team welcomed the Grizzles of Franklin college to the Harrington Center for another HCAC matchup. The Lions would dominate the second half of play to force overtime but just run out of gas late to fall just short in overtime 77-69.

The Lions would come out of the gates slow on offense as they would find themselves in a 13-2 hole with 2:34 left to play in the first period. Ella Breitfelder (CINCINNATI, OHIO / SETON) would check into the game and provide instant offense for the Lions with back-to-back layups to finish the first quarter of play by the score of 18-9.

The Lions offense would once again start out sluggish but quickly heat up as the Lions first four makes were all three-point jump shots to pull them back into the game. The Duo of Ellie Oldendick (GALLATIN, KY. / GALLATIN) and Haley Scott (CINCINNATI, OHIO OAK HILLS) would finish the quarter knocking down 4 of the 5 made three pointers in the quarter. Franklin would still hold on to a 38-26 lead at the half.

To start the second half the Lions picked up where they left off when Carlee Daulton (RIPLEY, OHIO / RIPLEY UNION LEWIS HUNTINGTON) would hit her first three-point jump shot of the game. Daulton had a fantastic quarter as she would follow the first three with another three, a layup and two free throws to pull the Lions within 6 points. The Final three minutes of play would go back and forth between the two evenly matched teams as guard Chloe Jansen (FORT THOMAS, KY. / HIGHLANDS) would finish the quarter on fire scoring the final 6 points to bring the score at the end of the period to 53-46 in favor of the Grizzles.

The final period of play would be another slow start for the first five minutes. The Lions would find themselves trailing 63-51 at the media timeout. From that point on the Lions defense would stiffen only giving up one point for the remainder of the period. The Lions offense was led by 5 different players scoring in the quarter and finished off by Senior Haley Scott as she connected with her 5th three pointer of the contest to tie the game at 64 to force overtime. The Lions would then slowly run out of gas in the overtime period as Franklin would score quickly to force the Lions to many three-point jumpers that would not fall. The Lions would fall in overtime 77-69.
