Kamryn McCool Becomes the MSJ Career Strikeouts Leader as the Lions Sweep Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - On Wednesday, March 30th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Wittenberg University to take on the Tigers in a double-header. In the Lions first game of the day Mount St. Joseph history was made. Senior Kamryn McCool became the Lions all-time leader in career strikeouts passing current MSJ Hall of Famer Kati Stroub-Young! The Lions rallied behind McCool defeating Wittenberg in just 6 innings 10-0. In game two the Lions continued their impressive play sweeping the Tigers of Wittenberg with a 5-2 victory. 

GAME ONE: MOUNT - 10     WITTENBERG - 0 
In game one Kamryn McCool was the star of the show setting a new school record with her 401st career strikeout. McCool was dominant for the Lions allowing only one hit through 6 innings of work while striking out 8 Wittenberg batters.

Offensively the Lions got going early scoring 3 runs in the top of the 2nd. First, Emily McDonald drives a ball to right center bringing in two runs. McDonald would later score giving the Lions an early 3-0 lead. But, it wasn't until the 5th inning that the Lions would extend their lead. Kaci Finchum would get the scoring started with a bases loaded single bringing in a pair of runs. Emily McDonald would again deliver for the Lions doubling up the middle scoring two more runs. After the 5th innings the Lions held a strong 7-0 lead. The bats did not cool down in the 6th as the Lions continued to cushion their lead. Sara Kardos would double to left field bringing in a run followed by an error and a Kaci Finchum single to push the Mount's lead to 10-0. In the bottom half McCool kept the Tigers off the score sheet ending the game with the Lions in front 10-0. 

GAME TWO: MOUNT - 5     WITTENBERG - 2
In game two Casey Kemp would head to the circle for the Lions. Kemp was effective through 6 innings of work allowing 5 hits on two runs while striking out a trio of Wittenberg batters. Kamryn McCool would enter the game in the 7th providing a clean inning and earning her 2nd save of the year. 

Offensively each side was kept quiet through the first two frames but the Lions attacked first in the 3rd. Emily McDonald would lead off the inning with a double followed by a Kelsi Stevenson single to right field giving the Lions an early 1-0 advantage. But, the Lions weren't done yet, attacking again in the 4th. Rachel Gabbard led off the inning with a single up the middle followed by another single from Alyssa Witmer. After a sacrifice and an error Elizabeth Ivers would make her way to the plate hitting another single for the Lions bringing in 1 run. Rachel Gabbard would also score giving the Lions a 3-0 lead. In the bottom half of the 5th Wittenberg would push across two runs of their own trimming The Mount's lead to just 1. But, the Lions would answer right back with a pair runs themselves. Casey Bramble would lead off the inning with a walk and would later score on a wild pitch and Maddie Kennedy would score on a sacrifice fly giving the Lions a 5-2 cushion. The Lions would then receive two clean innings from Kemp and McCool sealing the Lions victory.
