The Mount Fall Short in HCLC Opener

ANDERSON, Ind. – On Wednesday March 30, your Mount St. Joseph University men's lacrosse team went on the road to take on the Anderson Ravens for both teams first HCLC matchup of the season. The Mount would fight hard all the way to the finish but fall just short 14-8.

The Lions would find themselves falling behind quick as the Ravens would come out of the gates scoring back-to-back goals with 11 minutes left to play in the period. Both defenses would stiffen for the next 10 minutes of play as the Mount would sneak in a goal with 56 seconds left to play. Junior Antoine Jackson (Lexington, Ky. / Henry Clay) would find Junior Nathaniel Bird (Liberty Township, Ohio / Lakota East) who would score his 3rd goal on the season to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of the Ravens after one period.

Senior TJ Ahrens (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) would start the period with a faceoff win. Freshman Mason Meilinger (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) would pick up the ground ball and go coast to coast for the Lions second goal of the Match to bring the score even at 2. Anderson would then go on a 4-0 run to gain a lead on the Lions. Sophomore Ben Koopman (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) would put an end to the run with his first goal of the game. The Ravens would lead heading into the half 7-3.

To start the second half, Anderson University would jump out of the gates fast once again. The Lions would be able to score back-to-back goals to pull the game back to within 4 goals. Senior Solomon Richards (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) would be the 4th different Lion to score in the game and Meilinger would score his second goal of the match.

The Mount entered the final period of play trailing 11-5. Bird and Meilinger would have a great final period with both achieving a hat-trick on the night but it would not be enough to pull the Lions back as they would fall short by the score of 14-8.

The Lions were led by Nathaniel Bird and Mason Meilinger who would both end the night with 3 goals. TJ Ahrens would lead the Lions with 11 ground balls and winning 13 Faceoffs.
