Cincinnati, Ohio—The Mount St. Joseph University Men's Volleyball program hosted two MCVL matches this weekend. On Friday March, 4 the Lions were pinned against Mount Union and then Baldwin Wallace on Saturday March, 5. Despite their best efforts the Lions fell short in both matches.
Before the opening game of the weekend series, the Lions honored Senior Jason Hascher. Hascher recently recorded his 1,000 career kill, going down in the record book as the second Men's Volleyball player in Mount history to reach this impressive mark.
Match One: Mount Union 3 MSJ 0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-22)
The Lions posted their best efforts against the Purple Raiders. In this match the Lions had two players post impressive days. Hascher led the team in kills finishing with 14 and adding 10 digs. Logan Essen was a huge help defensively, with 16 digs.
Match Two: Baldwin Wallace 3 MSJ 2
In the second, and final match of the weekend the Lions were pitted against Conference foe, Baldwin Wallace. The Yellow-Jackets took the first two sets (25-21, 25-23). After tightly contested sets the Lions were able to win the third set (25-22), going on a three point run to finish the set. In set four the Lions were able to build on their momentum, winning by a huge margin (25-17) as they scored 10 consecutive points to take an 18-10 lead. With the match weighing on the fifth set the two teams would be neck and neck, before the Yellow Jackets scored four straight points to take control of the set (15-12).
In this tightly contested match, several Lions turned in impressive days statistically. Hascher continued to lead the Lions in kills, with 20 and 9 digs. Rey Sanchez was able to register 12 kills, 8 digs and 5 assists. Senior Hayden Wood would finish with a hitting percentage of .353 on his way to totaling 8 kills. Josh Kabel was great for the Lions defensively with 19 digs.
With this stretch of conference games behind the Lions, they now return to their attentions to out of conference opponent, Senica Heights. This game will be played on Sunday, March 13 at the Harrington Center. This game is scheduled to start at 3PM.
