Lions win second straight as Dancer & Kyle record Hat-Tricks

CINCINNATI, Ohio – On Saturday March 5th, your Mount St. Joseph Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Bison of Bethany College. The Mount would come into the matchup with a 1-1 record while winning their previous matchup. The Lions would hold on late in the 4th period to pull out the 12-10 victory.

            The first period of play for the Mount was their best scoring period of the afternoon, with 10 minutes left to play in the period the Lions would put themselves in a hole early as the Bison would strike first. Less than 10 seconds later Junior Sarah Murray (Cincinnati, Ohio / Ursuline Academy) would win the draw control and take the ball down the field herself to convert on the Lions first goal of the match to tie the score 1-1. Bethany would go on a run of their own and connect with back-to-back scores to grow their lead to 3-1 over the Lions. A trio of Lions would answer back as they would combine for 4 goals in 2 minutes of play to bring the score to 5-3 after the first period.

            The Lions would once again have a sluggish start to a period as Bethany College would score the opening two goals of the period to tie the game at 5-5. The Lions Sophomore Rachel Kyle (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) would find the back of the net for her second and third goals of the game to bring the Lions back in front by two goals. Later in the period, Sophomore Josi Jennings (Milford, Ohio / Milford) would also find score her first goal of the match to give the Lions an 8-5 lead with 6:31 left to play. Bethany college would sneak in a goal right before the buzzer as the Mount would go into the half leading 8-6.

            As the second half began, it was a period of defense. The Lion's defense was led by solid goaltending by Sophomore Emily Stiles (Milford, Ohio / Milford) as she would continue to make save after save. Senior Megan Dancer (Springboro, Ohio / Springboro) would then get the offense going for the Mount as she would connect for her second hat-trick in as many games to grow the lead 9-6. As the period would come to a close, the Bison would add two late goals to bring the score to 9-8 at the end of 3 periods.

            In the final period of play, the Lions did not start slow. Rachel Kyle and Megan Dancer would continue their fantastic game as Kyle would score the opening goal followed by two straight for Dancer to give the Lions an 12-8 lead with 10 minutes left to play. Bethany would try and fight back but the Lions would hold the Bison off and pick up a 12-10 victory to improve their record to 2-1 on the season.

            The Lions were led by Megan Dancer who would finish with 5 goals on the night. Rachel Kyle would also add 4 goals and an assist. Goalkeeper Emily Stiles would finish with 11 saves for the Lions and record her second victory in goal.
