Lake Myrtle, Florida—On Monday, March 7 the Mount St. Joseph University Baseball program would play the third game of their Florida trip. This game would see them play Fontbonne University. In this contest the Lions would come away with a 3-0 win, serving as their third win of the young season.
The Lions would score first in the bottom of the second inning when Caleb Partin drove an RBI single into left field to score Max Kline. Things would slow down for a few innings as both teams struggled to plate runs. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lions would add two runs to their cause when Jake Lawson drove in two runs on a hit into left field.
Carrying a 3-0 lead into the top of the eighth inning the Lions assembled an explosive, Ryan Murray would earn an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Nicholas Shields from third base. Following this score, Andrew Harrison would draw another bases-loaded walk to score Partin from third and Tyrell Anderson would draw another RBI walk. Anton Mere would hit a dribbler to the third baseman to score Murray. The Kline would drive in three runs on a double, which would allow the Lions to earn a 10-0 run-rule win.
The Lions received two great performances on the mound from their staff. Starting Pitcher Derek Richter would pitch five innings, allowing just two hits, no runs, and striking out seven batters. Ryan Caulfield would enter the game in relief going three innings of one-hit baseball and striking out four batters.
At the plate, two Lions recorded multi-hit games. Kline would finish with two hits and three RBIs. Lawson went 2-4 at the plate and drove in two runs. The group of Murray, Harrison, Partin, Anderson, and Mere would all earn an RBI each on their way to a 10 run win.
With this game behind the Lions, they will now have an off-day as they begin to prepare for Russell Sage University from New York.
