CLERMONT, Florida - The Mount St. Joseph University softball program had a fantastic second day on their annual spring training trip to Florida today. The Lions squared off with Eastern Nazarene and Lakeland today and came out with a pair of victories.
GAME ONE | MSJ 7 - ENU 0
Game one of the day got underway at 9:00 am with the Lions squaring off with Eastern Nazarene, and the Mount got off to a quick start. Taking a lead in the second inning on the strength of Sarah Kardos first homerun of the season. The Lions never looked back, scoring one in the third, two in the fourth and three in the sixth inning to secure the win.
In the game the Mount managed 13 hits, with
Ali Lang leading the way witha 3 for 4 effort from the leadoff spot. Three other Lions managed multiple hits in the game with
Macy Cornelius,
Elizabeth Ivers and Kardos each registered a pair of hits in the game. Four other Lions registered a single hit in the contest.
On the mound it was senior ace
Kamryn McCool who took the ball for the Mount. McCool was flat out dominant throwing a complete-game two hit shutout while striking out seven ENU batters.
GAME TWO | MSJ 5 - LU 2
The second game of the day was a much more competitive contest, again though the Lions jumped out to a quick lead. The Lions jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with two outs Cornelius doubled to get it started.
Rachel Gabbard followed that up with a walk setting the stage again for Kardos, who drilled a 2-RBI double to right field to get the scoring started.
The Lions scored again in the top of the third, as Cornelius led off with a single and an out later Kardos smacked her second homerun of the day putting the Lions ahead 4-0. They would notch their final run of the game in the fifth and again it was Cornelius who was the catalyst leading off the inning with a double, coming around to score on a Gabbard double.
In the circle it was
Casey Kemp who took the ball, and like McCool before her she was fantastic. The sophomore went the distance throwing 7.0 innings of 4 hit, 2 run (0 earned) while striking out a pair securing her fourth win of the season.

The Lions have a much needed day off tomorrow before playing a double-header on Wednesday against a pair of Ohio schools. The will play Ohio Wesleyan at 9:00 am Wednesday and Mount Union at 11:15 am.
