CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Tuesday, April 12th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Beavers of Bluffton University to the MSJ Softball Complex. The Lions displayed excellent pitching and defense not allowing a run in either game. The Lions ended game one early putting up 5 runs in the 3rd inning followed by 4 runs in the 4th inning. After a 9-0 victory in game one The Mount stormed back in game two taking an early lead and securing the victory by a score of 6-0.
Macy Cornelius was the standout for the Lions Tuesday evening. Between both games Cornelius went 4-5 with two doubles and 4 RBIs.
GAME ONE MSJ - 9 BLUFFTON - 0
Kamryn McCool took the circle for the Lions in game one. McCool impressed again for the Lions providing 5 innings pitched only giving up 1 hit and striking out 3. Offensively the Lions needed 2 innings to get the bats woken up. Each side was held scoreless until the 3rd. The Mount got the scoring started with a RBI single from
Kelsi Stevenson. Following Stevenson was
Macy Cornelius who laced a ball to left center for a double bringing in 2 more runs.
Rachel Gabbard would also join the hit parade singling down the left field line bringing in another run.
Macy Cornelius would later score on a wild pitch as the Lions piled on 5 runs.
The Lions didn't stop there as they continued to take control offensively. In the 4th
Emily McDonald would get a 2-out rally started with a double to right center.
Ali Lang would then single and steal second followed by a
Kelsi Stevenson walk.
Macy Cornelius next stepped to the plate delivering a RBI single. Following Cornelius was
Rachel Gabbard who came through in a big spot. Gabbard would rip a ball to left center for a bases clearing double extending the Lions lead to 9-0. After a quick top half of the 5th the Lions were victorious by a score of 9-0.
GAME TWO MSJ - 6 BLUFFTON - 0
In game two
Casey Kemp headed to the circle for the Lions. Kemp was terrific for the Lions providing 6 innings of work while allowing just 3 hits, 0 runs and 3 strikeouts. Sophomore
Hailey Johnson was handed the ball in the 7th and provided a clean inning giving The Mount their second win of the evening.
Offensively the Lions picked up where they left off.
Macy Cornelius came through again for the Lions in the opening frame. Cornelius singled to right center bringing in
Ali Lang to give the Lions an early 1-0 advantage. Each squad was held in check in the 2nd inning but the Lions would add again in the third. Cornelius again would provide for the Lions doubling to center field.
Rachel Gabbard would earn her 5th RBI of the evening singling up the middle giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the 4th is where the Lions would provide the bulk of their damage.
Maddie Kennedy would lead off the inning with a double to left center followed by a
Kaci Finchum walk.
Elizabeth Ivers next would double to left center bringing in Kennedy. Finchum would later score on a ground out and
Alyssa Witmer pitch running for
Elizabeth Ivers would score on a wild pitch extending The Mount's lead to 5-0. Cornelius would lead off the 5th with a walk and later would score on a single from
Maddie Kennedy. The Lions were held in check for the remainder of the game but still claimed victory by a score of 6-0
