The Mount Holds of Anderson to Win Second Straight

 
            ANDERSON, Ind. – On Wednesday April 13th, your Mount St. Joseph University women's lacrosse team went on the road to take on the Anderson Ravens. The Lions would come into the matchup winning back-to-back games and go on to win this matchup by the score of 13-12 to move to 5-4 on the year and 2-0 in the HCLC.

              In the first period of play, the Lions would strike first. Sophomore Rachel Kyle (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) would pick up a ground ball off of an Anderson missed shot and clear the ball down the field. Kyle would then find the back of the net to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. The Mount would go on to win the following draw control as Josi Jennings (Milford, Ohio / Milford) would find senior Megan Dancer (Springboro, Ohio / Springboro) for the second goal of the period and the Mount would lead 2-0. Anderson would fight back for the remainder of the final 9 minutes and tie to game at 2 by the end of period one.

              The Mount would fall behind early in the second period, the ravens would score the first two goals and take a 4-2 lead with 12:25 left to play in the second. With 11:44 left on the play clock, the Lions would score their first of 3 straight goals. The first would come from freshman Allison Bishop (Lebanon, Ohio / Lebanon). The following two goals would come from Freshman Mariah Briggs (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) and with 8:03 left to play in the half the Lions led 5-4. As the remainder of the period shifted back and forth, the Lions would find their final goal of the half when Bishop would score her second goal of the day and bring the game to the score of 6-6. With one second remaining in the half, Anderson would convert on a man up opportunity and the Lions would find themselves trailing 7-6 at the half.

              In the start of the second half, the Lions would be the ones to jump out early. Josi Jennings would be the first to score as that would tie the game at 7. Rachel Kyle would continue to dominate on the draw control, Kyle would be granted a free position shot and convert for her second goal of the day and pull the mount ahead 8-7 with 11:30 left to play in the period. The Lions and ravens would go back and forth in the period with great defense causing many turnovers and both goalies saving shots. With 4 minutes remaining, Junior Sarah Murray (Cincinnati, Ohio / Ursuline Academy) would score her first goal of the game and bring the Mount back ahead 9-8. Megan Dancer would follow up that goal with one of her own to give the Lions a two-goal lead with 3 minutes to play.  Anderson would once again answer the Mount's mini run and bring the score to 10-10 after 3 periods.

              In the final period of play, the Sarah Murray would score the first goal of the 4th period and take the momentum as the Mount grabbed a 11-10 lead.  Anderson would answer back with a goal of their own on the following possession to tie the match once again. With 11:24 left to play, the Mount would be penalized and find themselves in a man down situation. The Mount would find a way to score as Rachel Kyle would complete the Hat trick on the day and take the lead back. Once again, Anderson would score quickly after and tie the game back at 12 with 9 minutes left to play. As the time was winding down the Mount would find a way to score as Allison Bishop would score her third goal of the match and this goal would end up being the game winner as the Mount would play shutdown defense for the final 5 minutes and walk away with a 13-12 win.

The Mount was led by Rachel Kyle and Allison Bishop who would score 3 goals each. Josi Jennings would also add a goal with 3 assists and cause 3 turnovers. Goalie Emily Stiles (Milford, Ohio / Milford) would end with 7 saves and a win.
