St. Louis, MO.—The Mount St. Joseph University Men's Volleyball program traveled west to Fontbonne University to participate in the 2022 MCVL Tournament. In the first round, the Lions would be matched with the #2 seeded Mount Union Raiders. This match would span four sets, before Mount Union knocked off the Lions.
Set One: MU 25 MSJ 18
The first set of the afternoon would see the Purple Raiders jump ahead, building a massive 10 point lead. The Lions assembled a six point run, as Jason Hascher dominated through the final points of the game. This run would set the momentum for the second set of the match.
Set Two: MSJ 25 MU 22
Set Two would be a hotly contested set. The two teams would go back and forth, before a booming swing by Hascher gave the Mount an 11-10 lead. This swing gave the Lions another boost of momentum. Elijha Scott would add two consecutive points, to push the score to 14-10. While the Raiders would close the score at several points, the Senior pair of Hascher and Rey Sanchez would help close the door for a 25-22 set victory.
Set Three: MU 25 MSJ 22
In the third set, the Raiders would win, in nail-bitting fashion. Both clubs traded points, remaining tied at 16-16. Mount Union would score two straight, and never looking back as they took the third set of the match.
Set Four: MU 25 MSJ 20
In the final set of the season for the Lions, they would fall 25-20. The Mount would battle, trailing 23-22 before the Raiders built a three score run to finish the match.
The efforts of Hascher helped the Lions, as the Senior registered 24 total kills and a .321 hitting percentage. Sanchez added 11 kills and 6 digs, while Scott finished with 7 kills and hit .462.
