Harris Posts 1st Career Shutout as the Lions Defeat Albion

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Saturday, September 24th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Brtions of Albion to Schueler Field for a non-conference matchup. The contest started as a defensive battle but at the start of the second half the Lions found some success. The Mount was awarded a penalty not even a minute into the half and Senior Catherine Hatfield pushed the ball past the keeper giving the Lions a 1-0 advantage. The Lions defense held strong with Freshman Alyse Harris guarding the net. Harris posted her first career shutout in the 1-0 victory over the Britons.

In the first half the Lions pushed the attack early. Mckenzie Schneeman would get the first shot off just 30 seconds into the match but would miss just wide left. Poetrie Bedgood would follow with a pair of shots missing just high. The Lions defense impressed early with Freshman Alyse Harris making a pair of key saves just 15 minutes into the game. Following the saves each team struggled to create opportunities. After 45 minutes the score was still tied at 0-0.

After halftime the Lions caught a break. Catherine Hatfield controlled the ball in the box and was tripped from behind and the Lions were awarded a penalty kick. Hatfield stayed in the box to take the kick and slipped the ball into the bottom left corner past the outstretched arm of the keeper giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. Following the goal the Lions took a more defensive approach. The Lions were limited to just 4 more shots in the half compared to Albion's 10.

But, Freshman Alyse Harris answered the call making 7 second half saves to help lift the Lions to victory. Harris earned her 2nd win of the season while completing the first of many shutouts to come in her career. Senior Catherine Hatfield pushed across the only goal of the night giving the Lions their 4th victory in 2022.
