CINCINNATI, Ohio- On Saturday, September 30
th, your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed Franklin College to Schueler Field for the second HCAC match of the season. The Lions dominated the match scoring 3 goals and securing a shut out on the defensive side of play. In the first half,
Mckenzie Schneeman scored off a beautiful free kick taken from
Alena Schirripa from the 50-yard line leading to a 1-0 lead. In the second half of play,
Alexa Simpson scored within the first minute of play from a perfectly slotted ball by
Bailey Dotson within the 18. Shortly after, in the 25
th minute of play,
Kerigan Pollard received a pass from
Mary Litzinger and made a move to fake out the keeper, slotting the ball into the back of the net leading to the Lion's 3-0 shut out over the Grizzlies.
In the first half of play against the Grizzlies, your Lions dominated with 6 shots compared to Franklin's 2 shots. In the 15
th minute of play, there was a Grizzly hand ball at the 50-yard line leading to a free kick for the Lions.
Alena Schirripa took the free kick, perfectly placing it in front of
Kerigan Pollard and
Mckenzie Schneeman. Schneeman secured the kick, beat her defender, and rocketed her shot right over the keeper in the right side of the goal leading to a 1-0 score. Your Lion's defense held the Grizzly's chances at attack throughout the whole game, not allowing them any goals.
Throughout the second half, the Lions again dominated the half with 6 attempts at goal compared to only 1 attempt from the Grizzlies. The Lions first opportunity came within the first minute of play when
Bailey Dotson received the ball within the 18 with 4 defenders around her. Dotson played a ball square to wide open
Alexa Simpson who slotted the ball in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Only about 20 minutes later,
Mary Litzinger played a ball through the Grizzly's back line to
Kerigan Pollard who was one on one with the keeper. Pollard used some tricky footwork to move right around the keeper and secure the 3-0 shut out win for the Lions. Your Lion's defense also continued to hold strong not allowing the Grizzlies any corner kick opportunities and only 1 shot attempt in the second half.
