BLUFFTON, Ohio- On Wednesday, October 4
th, your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Bluffton University to take on the Beavers for an HCAC matchup. The Lions dominated the match with 23 shots, 16 being on frame, compared to the Beavers' 6 shots with only 1 being on frame. The Lions were not able to find the back of the net in the first half of play, but they were able to secure the win with goals from
Paige Adams and
Abby Cole in the second half. This win leads the Lions to a 3-0 undefeated record in the conference.
In the first half of play, your Lions did not find the back of the net, but their offensive pressure was strong with 12 shots on goal. 2 of these shots came within the first 5 minutes of play from
Paige Adams and
Alondra Sotelo, but the keeper was able to settle the ball. Defensively, the Lions did an excellent job with
Molly Sheridan,
Vivian Willis, and
Alena Schirripa holding the Beavers to 0 corner kicks and only 1 shot on frame throughout the whole game.
During the 2
nd half of the game, your Lion's secured their running undefeated status in the HCAC by scoring 2 goals. First, the Lions earned a corner kick from the Beaver's defense, and
Mckenzie Schneeman sent a beautiful ball perfectly to the penalty kick area where
Paige Adams sent a header right over the keeper's hands to the back of the net to get the goal scoring started in the 25
th minute of the second half. About 15 minutes later,
Layla Youtsler got a breakaway down the right flank and dribbled to the end-line where she dropped the ball back to
Mary Anhofer. Anhofer received the pass, sending the ball into the 18 where
Abby Cole smashed it in the back of the net from the far post securing the 2-0 win.
UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions will be back in action at home Saturday, October 7
th at 6 pm against Earlham College. The Lions have beat Earlham for the past several years. In 2021, the Lions beat them 2-0, and in 2022, they beat the Quakers 5-0. The Lions are looking to continue this pattern of winning on Schueler Field to continue their undefeated streak in the HCAC.
