CINCINNATI, Ohio – On Wednesday, October 11
th, your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Pioneers of Transylvania University to Schueler Field for another HCAC match. The Lion's defense held the Pioneers to a shutout with excellent play from
Molly Sheridan who also received HCAC Defensive Player of the Week last week. Your single scorer of the night was the Lion's lead scorer,
Mckenzie Schneeman, with a great shot taken from well outside the 18 in the 11
th minute of the first half. This 1-0 win moves the Lions to an undefeated record of 5-0 in conference play.
In the first half of play, the Lions put up 3 shots in the first 6 minutes before the Pioneers got a single shot off on goal. They continued this offensive pressure ultimately leading to a goal in the 11
th minute.
Mckenzie Schneeman intercepted a pass from the Pioneer's defensive player at the center of the field around the 30-yard line where she took a prep touch and blasted the ball into the left corner of the net from 25 yards out. Schneeman's excellent goal led the Lion's to a 1-0 lead for the first half of play.
Throughout the second half, your MSJ Lions continued to put pressure on the Pioneer defense, but they were not able to find the back of the net again. The Lion's defense played a strong role in holding the shutout with some great defensive plays.
Alyse Harris carried the back line making many great saves throughout the game and keeping a calm presence during a close match. Along with Harris, the Lion's back line, consisting of many different players, did an excellent job of shutting down the Pioneers who have yet to get shutout in an HCAC game, scoring 18 goals in conference play so far this season.
UP NEXT: The Mount St. Joseph Lions will be back in action on the road October 14
th against Anderson University at 1 pm. Within the past 3 years, the Lions have been pretty evenly split against Anderson with 1 win, 2 ties, and 1 loss. All these games have also had differentials of only 1 goal, so they have been very close matchups. The Lions are looking to keep their undefeated status in the HCAC with another win over the Ravens.
