ANDERSON, Ind. - On Saturday, October 14th your Mount St. Joseph University Men's Soccer team traveled to Anderson University to take on the Ravens in a Heartland Collegiate Conference matchup. The Ravens got on the board first scoring in the 18th minute and took that lead into halftime. Following halftime, the Ravens would add on 2 more goals in the 54th and 75th minutes to take a 3-0 lead. But, the Lions would finally get the opportunity scoring on a penalty kick in the 89th minute to cut into the Ravens lead. But, that was all the offense for the Lions as the Ravens came out on top by a score of 3-1.
In the first half, the Ravens controlled the pace. Anderson got off to a quick start flooding the net with shots but couldn't find the target. But, in the 18th minute the Ravens would finally break the tie grabbing a 1-0 lead. But, Lions goalkeeper
Aaron Smith would take control following the goal. Smith made just 2 saves in the half but was peppered with shots during the 45 minutes. The Lions went into the break down a goal, looking to create some offensive pressure.
In the 2nd half, the Ravens did not let up offensively. Anderson quickly added to their lead in the 54th minute. Following the goal, the Lions were able to slow down the Ravens offensive attack. But, the Ravens would again add to their lead in the 75th minute taking a 3-0 advantage.
The Lions stayed persistent despite their deficit and were given an opportunity to fight back. Following the goal Anderson would receive a red card in the 82nd minute leaving them a man down for the remainder of the game. The Lions would take advantage getting 3 shots off but none could find the net. However, the Lions would be gifted an opportunity in the 89th minute. A handball in the box from the Ravens gave the Lions a penalty shot to dig into the Ravens lead.
Luis Martinez Velez stepped to take the kick and buried the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to trim the deficit. But, after the final minute of play, the Lions were unable to get back into the score column falling on the road 3-1.
UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions are back in action on Wednesday, October 18th when the play host to the Panthers of Hanover College. Kickoff is set to begin at 7pm.
