CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph football team got back on the winning side after losing at Hope and a bye week left them with the taste of defeat for an extended period of time. The Mount jumped out to a quick lead scoring 35 first half points, and never looked back finishing with a 69-14 win.
In the game Lions senior kicker
Kyle Farfsing had a record breaking performance, on his second PAT of the game he broke the all-time kicking points record at the Mount. The previous record was 184 held by Jerry Porter and after this game Kyle has 188 kicking points in his career.
The story of this game was the Lions defense, who allowed only a single offensive touchdown by Manchester and held the Spartans to -7 rushing yards in the game. They did so even with 31 different player registering a tackle in the game, showing their depth on the defensive side of the ball.
Nate Austin led the team with a career-high six total tackles in his first start of the season. Reserve defensive back
Dylan Sebastian also had a career-high with five tackles finishing second on the team.
The Lions also employed a successful pass rush in the game with four sacks, freshman
Marcell Tucker had a pair his first two in a Lions uniform.
Devon Donawerth and
Daniel Gray also each added a sack.
Offensively the Lions ran the ball extremely effectively even with 11 different players registering a carry. As a team they ran the ball 50 times for 356 yards (7.1 per rush), with
Jonathan Rager leading the way with 13 carries for 92 yards and a touchdowns.
Mariano McKenzie carried it 8 times for 71 yards,
Devin Holt 6 for 68 and a pair of scores while both
Keymari Pittman and
Ari Turner both added touchdown runs.

The Lions (3-1, 1-0 HCAC) will head north to Defiance, Ohio to take on the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College (2-2, 1-0 HCAC). Defiance was maybe the surprise of the HCAC a week ago after an upset win over Hanover on the road got them off to a 1-0 start in league play.
