NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana – On Saturday, October 21
st, your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Manchester University to continue HCAC play. The Lions dominated the game with a 3-0 win and added another shutout to their stats. Co-caption,
Kerigan Pollard scored 2 goals throughout the game, and
Bailey Dotson finished out the game with a goal in the last 5 minutes of play to make it a 3-0 game.
In the first half of play, your Lion's offense dominated with 13 shots compared to the Spartan's 3 shots. However, the Lions could only find the back of the net on one of those shots in the first 12 minutes of the game. To start off the attacking play,
Mary Anhofer received the ball at the top of the 18 and slotted it to
Sydney Bell on the right flank. Bell took a touch to the end line and slotted a great diagonal ball back to the penalty area where
Kerigan Pollard arrived on a late run securing the first goal of the game and the only in the first half. The Lions continued pressure with many shots, including a great run from
Sydney Bell who wasn't able to find the back of the net because of the muddy conditions of the grass field.
Throughout the second half, the Lion's defense held the Spartans to only 3 shots and ultimately secured another shutout win. In the 25
th minute of the second half,
Mary Anhofer received the ball at midfield and passed it to
Ella Pittman who passed the ball forward splitting the two defenders covering
Kerigan Pollard. Pollard dribbled forward, made a cheeky move around the goalkeeper, and secured her 2
nd goal of the afternoon. A few minutes later, with only 5 minutes left to play,
Mary Litzinger received the ball inside the 18 off a throw in, but a Spartan defender retrieve it and tried to clear the ball which ricocheted off of Litzinger to the center of the 18.
Bailey Dotson was in the perfect spot, receiving the deflected ball, and sent it to the left corner of the goal outside of the goalkeepers reach.
