WILMORE, Kentucky – On Monday, October 23
rd, your Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Wilmore, Kentucky to take on the Asbury University Eagles. The Lions had a quick start in the first half with 2 goals scored by
Alondra Sotelo in the first 15 minutes of play. The Lions were not able to find the back of the net again after Sotelo's two goals. However, defensively, the Lions were able to hold off the Eagles until the last 4 minutes of play when the Eagles snuck one in the back of the net ending with a 2-1 game.
In the first half of play, the Lions dominated with 7 shots compared to the Eagles 1 shot which was not on frame. The Lions capitalized on this offensive pressure in the first few minutes of play with a beautifully slotted ball from
Kerigan Pollard to the back post where
Alondra Sotelo was able to hit it to the back of the net with little to no defensive pressure. Shortly after, in the 15
th minute of play,
Alondra Sotelo capitalized on a great save from the Eagle's goalkeeper, smashing the deflection in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The Lions had plenty of attempts on goal throughout the rest of the half, but they were not able to capitalize on their attempts. On the other end of the field, the Lion's defense held the Eagles to only one shot which went out wide of the goal, so it was not on frame.
Throughout the second half, the Lions were more of a possession team, not getting much offensive action. Your Lions kept the ball at their feet and were able to pass around the Eagles for quite some time, but the Eagles were able to get a counterattack going with less than 5 minutes left of play. The counterattack from the Eagles consisted of some good one-two passing that allowed them to get around the Lion's defense and find their left flank player open at the center of the 18 for a goal. This goal finished out the game with a Lion's win with a score of 2-1.
